Medfield Youth Community Collaborative

  • MYCC is a youth forum for the teens in our town.
  • We are a 3-year old Grass-roots organization of parents, teens and community members such as Chief Meeney, selectmen, ministry educators, school administration from Dale St, BMS and the HS, parks and rec, guidance counselors, Medfield Youth Outreach Workers and now the Medfield Youth Initiative Coordinator, Jean Vazza
  • Our focus is to establish a community network and to provide leadership to our youth. We facilitate communication among these different community groups.
  • Our main goal is to identify current issues facing the teens in Medfield and offer a supportive role to parents and students.
  • We encourage parent and student education programs and youth activities that promote safe, legal and healthy behaviors among our teens, as offered by town departments and agencies.

A Few of our Successes and Accomplishments

  1. Initiated communication that ultimately resulted in the successful running of the biannual Fall and Springfest events with Park and Rec Dept
  2. Teen coffeehouses
  3. Supported outdoor lighting for teens near the Pfaff field.
  4. We have had several speakers on related teen topics such as Sue Blaney, author of PLEASE DON”T STOP THE ROLLERCOASTER and Attny Robert Campbell on parent liability when underage drinking occurs in their home.
  5. Last year we began a successful underage drinking forum to discuss the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, of which included meeting with our new Chief Meaney and obtaining expert advise from our Youth Outreach Worker
  6. We have organized some smaller parent discussion groups as a result of these forums that we sponsored.

This year we will be including Middle School students. Having student representation from the 8th grade is addition to the HS increases community awareness surrounding the issues and the concerns of Medfield Teens. Parents are always invited to attend.

We meet the second Thursday of every month at 7:30 AM in room 125 of the HS beginning on October 11th. If you have any questions regarding MYCC or might be interested in attending a meeting and supporting our teens, let us know. You can contact either Jean Bourdon or Roberta Frankenthaler.
